The Thai government announced on Tuesday it would extend visa automatically for tourists who had entered the country after March 1.
The German tourist, who entered Thailand in February, said that visa extension should cover also those who entered Thailand before March 1.
In response to the complaint, an official at the Foreign Ministry told The Nation that Immigration authorities are aware of the issue and the Cabinet had agreed in principle about the automatic visa extension. Officials are working out details and will shortly make an official announcement, he added.

Thai PM Prayut Chan-o-cha is concerned that foreigners seeking visa extensions have been gathering in their hundreds at Thailand’s immigration offices each day, at a time when social distancing is needed due to the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic. This from a spokesman for the Foreign Affairs Ministry today.
Deputy ministry spokesman Natapanu Nopakun announced that the cabinet has responded with a move to grant automatic renewal of tourist visas for visitors who arrived in Thailand after March 1. The proposal was approved by the cabinet yesterday and is set to be officially announced sometime soon. The situation will relieve a lot of the stress the visits to crowded immigration offices has been causing to tourists and visitors.
People who hold other types of visa, or who arrived before March 1, still need to go visit their nearest immigration office for extensions.
We’ll publish more information about the announcement when it becomes available.

Stranded Tourists In Thailand Will Get Automatic Visa Extensions Due To COVID-19
Now that most international flights have been cancelled due to the spread of COVID-19, a large number of foreigners are not able to fly back home. Due to these concerns, Thai Immigration has automatically extended all tourist visas to 30th June 2020.
The cabinet approved automatic visa extensions on 31st March 2020, said Deputy ministry spokesman Natapanu Nopakun. That means Thailand will offer automatic tourist visa renewals for visitors arriving in Thailand after 1st March 2020.
This is to lower the number of foreigners at the immigration office as they are not required to physically be down to extend their tourist visa. Their visa will be automatically extended to 30th June 2020.
However, other foreigners with other types of visas, such as for students or employees, are still required to visit the immigration office to extend their stay as per normal.
We’re sorry for all the visitors that are now stranded in Thailand and unable to go back home. Find out more information in the full official briefing here.
